The essence of my teaching philosophy is that the ultimate goal of learning languages is effective, successful communication for which the knowledge of a foreign language is merely a tool. The traditional language teaching methods present the learner with a number of deceiving and false categories and targets (e.g.: sense for languages, language exams, textbooks) which – together with the impersonal and dull nature of the lessons – bring down the enthusiasm of even the most determined students.
I, on the other hand, set personalized goals with and for my students, we communicate about relevant topics and I make sure they have continuous success in communicating in English.
Maintaining interest may be the toughest challenge for the teacher. Tackling this requires high levels of people/psychological skills, patience, intelligence, sense of humor among other qualities.
I adapt my materials to my students’ goals and personality and do my best to make my classes effective, lively and fun with various interesting activities.
I pay special attention to inspire my students to use their English for their own purposes outside the classroom: in their careers, personal lives, for entertainment, getting information, practically in any possible situation. The more they are exposed to these target language situations the more certainty they will have in speaking/comprehending the English language. Having taught English for nearly two decades while receiving a great deal of positive feedback reinforced me in the grounds and effectiveness of my teaching process.
